How do I go about checking it? I tried to copy and paste the original codes back and it still wouldn’t work. It doesn’t look like it’s the theme’s problem. I tried using other themes and it still wouldn’t work. Where should I look for the issue? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats, a really, really great theme.
I’ve been using the 3 col, theme since October of last year, and it suits my needs perfectly. However I am stuck with being able to setup a page template so it covers the width of the 3 columns minus the 2 sidebars (ie 980px). I know how to remove the sidebars, but am stuck with the postcol data and what to put in the new template php and the stylesheet. I’ve checked all the other comments on the other postings for your different themes and earlier versions. I have even Googled it, but to no avail. Grateful if you could point me in the right direction?

It seems if there is Italics next to the image, it doesn’t render the full image. If you look at the site, and see a cutoff image, I can gurantee you there is a word in italics bumped up against it.

I’m still not sure that this is such a bug, though. Looking through your page, I see that you have a tremendous amount of invalid markup in your post content, and not just run of the mill “missing alt tag” stuff. In particular, you appear to have extra, unclosed img tags in every post which may or may not be messing everything up. Unterminated tags of any sort can have very non-deterministic results in different browsers and different tag contexts (aka different themes).

Try to generate a minimal test case for the problem in a page that has (mostly) clean markup, using the W3C validator to validate (note that 0.10.0 has some innocuous validation problems which are fixed in later versions, and you don’t need to worry about these). It will probably be easier to do this from scratch than to try to clean up all the posts on your blog, although I suspect you’ll find that invalid markup is the source of your problem and you’ll have to clean up your posts eventually (and you should in any event).

Even though your post content “works” with most browsers/themes, it’s not possible to make WuCoco robust against all varieties of invalid markup… you have to keep your posts cleanish or you’ll run into problems. Please follow-up with a minimal test case, or once you’ve cleaned up your post markup.

Back to the main issue. I installed the new version and made no changes to it, and set it as default. The images still get cut off. I then used the “default” theme, and everything is fine.

So the images seem to only cut off with WuCoco themes. (I only have default and WuCoco, so that sounds harsher than it was meant)

Please don’t take that as blame/insult either. I hate IE7 as much as the next person, but as you know with everything web, we have to account for all browsers the best we can, and with 57% of our visitors still using IE I want to try to fix this.

So any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

@Fosef: I noticed that you’re using a heavily modified WuCoco 0.10.0, have you confirmed the behavior with a vanilla install of 0.10.2? 0.10.0 has known issues with IE7 and the issue may have been fixed in later release. Also, confirm the issue _doesn’t_ exist with the default theme… if it persists there you have an issue elsewhere.

I now have a new issue, when I upload wucoco_3col-0.10.2, when I go to set it as the default them, it doesn’t exist…its listed under broken themes with the description “Stylesheet is missing.”

The stylesheets exist, and i have deleted and re-uploaded several times not overwriting anything existing.

It worked perfectly. I’ve used a customised version of the 3 column for my band’s podcast – http://thesunpilots.com/podcast/. Thanks again for making it possible.

First of all, awesome theme you’ve created for WordPress. Just one question – how can I remove the column height matching feature? I actually want each of the 3 columns (I’m using the 3 colum version) to auto size to their contents and stay that size. I notice when the page first loads this happens, but after a few seconds the columns all resize to be the same height…..

Thanks for the tip. Yup I created an empty archive page and that was all I did. I will edit the archives.php as from your suggestion. Now I really need to learn more about PHP.

@kf: Just to be clear, the way you created your archives page was to create a new page and give it the name “Archives” but place no content in the body of the page. Then you selected from the template pulldown the archives template. Correct? I want to be absolutely certain that you aren’t simply assuming that the archives page is always named archives (it isn’t), and have named it “X CTRY” thinking that the page title will be ignored (the title you select for your archives page is what should be displayed, whether it’s “archives” or “vampirebat” or whatever).

At any rate, if you’ve done everything correctly, you’ve stumped me. I’ve had at least one other report of similar behavior but haven’t been able to reproduce on any of several test systems so I have no clue what’s going on. You can workaround the problem by editing archives.php and hardcoding the title (search for the_title and replace that bit of php with your title text.

Don’t bother with the bug. Apparently WP 2.1.1 had some security issues and is no longer available. Version 2.1.2 was rushed out and your theme is working fine with that version.

I just upgraded to WordPress 2.1.1 and the 3 column theme does not seem to be compatible. The problem occurs when I enable sidebar widgets. After that, when going to a post page, with comments, only the header and the right sidebar will display in the browser window. If I disable widgets, all is fine.

I have customized the theme slightly but also tried an original copy and the same thing happens. For now, I am going to install a different theme but will be checking back and hopefully finding a solution. My website is here.

I’ll take a look at it in the vanilla theme and let you know. Additionally, if I wanted to change the template to make the sidebars stay the same length as the centerpiece what would I need to change to do so? Are you able to help with that?

@Chad: I’m glad things are working well for you, don’t forget about widgets, which are a great way for non-technical folks to gain some control over their sidebars.

When I disable the “player preview” option in podpress, the entries no longer roll off the bottom. It doesn’t seem to affect the ability to click on the “Play” link, which causes the embedded player to show up and play (and the entries don’t roll off when that happens).

Odd. I wonder if other embedded Flash objects cause the same issue.

Anyway, I’ve fixed it for my needs… I hope this can help you point others to a workaround until you can figure out if it’s a bug you can fix or need to make a Flash exception for :)

I’ve been importing entries from an old site to a new site, and the test bed for the new site is http://www.farpointmedia.net/FBSD/

If you look at older entries, you’ll see that the on Page 2 and higher, the entries roll off the bottom of the “frame” of the site. This problem didn’t crop up until I added the media enclosures via the podPress plugin. Before that, it wasn’t behaving like that.

Other than that, I love this layout.

@Lucas: Visiting your website, it looks like your sorted this out. I’m guessing that your youtube tag was malformed. Please post a follow-up comment to share your solution.

@Kai: Please describe the simplest test case I can use to reproduce your problem. First off, does it happen on the vanilla theme. Second, what web browsers display the behavior. Third, do you see the bad behavior only when posting certain types of video or does it happen with “regular” content as well. Give me some more information and maybe I can help you out.

@limedragon: I’m not entirely following you. Try explaining what you’ve done, what you expected happen, and what happened that violated that expectation. I’m not an UTW user, so you’ll have to start from the beginning, explain any UTW-specific jargon you’re using, and link to the UTW documentation that you’re following.

@Kathi: There’s a limited amount of help I can give to folks who are customizing WuCoco. Things can get hairy fast when you’re making your own changes. Confirm that the vanilla theme works, and then start making your changes one at a time and testing them thoroughly to see where you’ve gone wrong.

@kf: It looks like you’re using WuCoco 0.10.0. Please upgrade to the latest version of WuCoco and try to reproduce your problem.

@Karl: Look through my previous comments for instructions on widening the theme. You need to worry about the post column, the sidebar(s), and the big div container that holds all of them. The widths need to add up correctly or you’ll be in for trouble. So, yes, it is possible. No, it’s not hard… but there are some places where things can go wrong. I’d like to make this more easily customizable in a future version, but development time is scarce right now.

@Micah: Comments on the blog are moderated, so they don’t show up until I approve them. I need more information to be of help. I also see that you’ve got some cool but extensive customizations going on with your site, first confirm that the problem occurs in the vanilla theme. If not, you need to go back and test your changes more thoroughly.

I’ve been using your 3 column theme for my website for the last 2 months. Your layout was the only one I could use for my concept. I couldn’t find anyone else’s theme that worked better for me.

After using it for sometime, I realized a couple of bugs I’m facing.
1) The achieves section does not work for me. It was working properly till the second month came up. Thereafter, both months (I’ve only 2 months currently in the achieves) shows the Error 404 page. I’m not sure what is wrong.

2) The “No Comments” button also links to the Error 404 page. It was working properly initally but as I don’t usually check on them, I’m not sure when the problem started.

3) In I.E 6, the rendering does not show up properly. The columns do not extend itself to be in-line together. It was doing good initially but after like 3 or 4 posts, it no longer came in-line. This problem is only found in I.E 6. I’m not sure about I.E 7. I tend to use firefox but many of my visitors use I.E.

I hope you can address my issue.

As with everyone else, I love your theme. It is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The problem that I am having is that content is appearing incredibly shrunken in the leftbar column in IE7 only. Firefox looks great. Any ideas?

Great theme, just wondering if there is a simple way to make the center column wider. Don’t need it variable width, just a fixed width of 700px. I tried modifying the stylesheet (I know enough to be dangerous) but it went bonkers so I put it back to 470px.

I am not versed with php so I am at a loss with what to do to correct it.

Great theme. I’m doing the setup for my church’s website in my own webspace and then moving it to their server. Got everything done but the header (we’re working on the graphic) and went to test things. I use Firefox under XP and don’t bother with IE except for stuff like this.

Was shocked to see that the leftbar is only an inch long – it looks like it’s been shrunk!

I am new to CSS and all of this; don’t even know a lot about WP – but I’ve been doing a lot of modifying (mostly little things: changing font sizes, adding a few styles, and so on.) It’s possible that I accidentally changed something I ought not to have – but I sure don’t know what it would have been!

I did see one post and your reply above regarding the left bar not displaying correctly due to container width, and so wanted to address that. I’ve not changed any widths on anything – that was an area I’ve not messed with. Based on that post, I removed most everything from the left bar temporarily (like the bible verse and the weather) and shortened the remaining links: no change. So I don’t think it’s related to the other issue. I also have changed the overall font from Verdana/62.5% to Trebuchet MS/70.5%. I changed it back to see if there might be some issue with that (since I changed it on a wing, a prayer, and “let’s see what’ll happen”) – but no, it stayed the same.

AFAIK I’m using the latest versions of WuCoco and WP (ditto for the plugins I’ve got).

One thing that seems to have changed in yours that I can’t seem to fix, is the page postcol height. When writing posts of anylength, the home page always scales the postcol to be longer than the post, but on pages this doesn’t happen I have a video I want to post on a page, but it looks bad because the postcol height is shorter than the post as you can see here:
